Congratulations to all of our Summer of Kindness bike winners!  Over the summer of 2015 seven local camps have engaged in Acts of Kindness and the youth were rewarded weekly.  Check out the Summer of Kindness camps here .

Not only did Vincent help clean up the field, he went out of his way to help a fellow camper who got hurt, truly exemplifying the principles that WORDS aims to promote. Great job, Vincent!

De De has exemplified the meaning of the WORDS initiative by being positive and uplifting to those around her.  She helps others when needed and has stopped negative language from being used around  the camp.  Way to go De De!

Quintessence represented the WORDS campaign when she comforted another camper who was having a bad day.  Way to go Quinn!

V-Ann demonstrated the meaning of the WORDS campaign when she took an English Language Learner around to show them how to learn the colors and shapes for circle time.  V-Ann also recognized unsafe behaviors and reported to an adult right away. Way to go V-Ann!

Gabriella, who was very uncomfortable making friends when she began attending camp, brought in little balloons to share with her new friends on Tuesday. She kept them at her table and handed one out to each camper as they went by.

 Emily and another camper tagged one another simultaneously, one young boy fell to the ground and rather than ignoring him and running off, Emily stopped and helped the young boy up and made sure he was OK.

Zachary consistently is a good role model of what great sportsmanship and kindness looks like. He has shown his ability to lead by constantly helping campers that are younger than him.

Annie heard a camper being unkind to another camper. The other camper became hurt, and before he reacted she asked the two to separate, and walked the one student whose feeling were hurt over to me so I could handle the situation.

At camp they were playing football at the end of the day, and a long pass was thrown to Mark. He went up to get the ball, and as he fell to the ground, it was unclear whether or not he caught the ball. He stood up and said he dropped it .It was a very close call, and no one knew this but him. It was a very honest moment.

A boy arrived at camp without a lunch one day, and Faith selflessly offered half of her lunch to the other boy.

Dayne and his sister Faith (above) saw an argument/possible fight start, and both jumped in and calmly asked the two boys to get along. Both siblings spoke to each of the boys and made sure that the camp director was aware of the situation.

At the end of CrossFit's session at BKW Sports Camp, Tyler and stayed behind to help clean up their heavy equipment.

Tyana captured the WORDS campaign when she was caught cleaning up all the paper cups from the sports fields after camp activities. Great job Tyana!

Preston demonstrated the power of the WORDS campaign when he not only helped clean up all the sport equipment after camp but also when he befriended a new camper and made that person feel welcomed.  Way to go Preston!

Jordan is always helping others and being a good role model to his peers. He encourages them and cheers them on and helps them with different skills without having to be asked by anyone. He is a team player and an amazing individual!

Amara demonstrated the meaning of the WORDS campaign when she noticed another camper who was all alone and took that camper around and introduced them to others so that they could become friends.  Way to go Amara!

Jahzanear broke up a verbal altercation between two older campers on our basketball court and explained to them why using the positive WORDS that they were taught as part of the Summer of Kindness would help them in the situation.

Teliyah saw a camper crying because she missed her mother and decided to console her and speak kind words to her so the camper would feel better.

Tinishea always assists campers with starting their stitching for their lanyard. There is usually a line of 35 campers who come to her to help them begin their stitching. She does this without complaining and speaks kind words to campers while they are waiting.

Aliah demonstrated the meaning of the WORDS campaign when she shared her jump rope with two other campers who did not have a jump rope and also read to a group of her peers.  Way to go Aliah!

Richard demonstrated the power of the WORDS campaign when he helped clean up behind the campers who attended the Palace Theater's Summer in the City Movie.  He also helped another camper clean gum off their shoe!! Way to go Richard!

Sakariah demonstrated kindness when she won a prize for excellent participation during camp events and gave her prize to another camper who was having a hard time.  Great job Sakariah!

Hydiah has represented the WORDS campaign by assisting in handing out lunches to all the other youth in her camp before serving herself.  Way to go Hydiah!
